1 Preamble

Those who produce and distribute music in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar contribute, in their own way, to the good of the nation.

They do so both by investing their own capital and by investing their creative labour and artistry.

That contribution has supported the unity of the Union and amity among its peoples, the broadening of public understanding, and the advancement of national culture.

2 Objectives

MMCO was formed to protect the interests of those who work in music, and with their long-term interests in view. Its purpose is to bring order and modernity to every part of the Myanmar music industry, and to connect it to international music networks.

1. a To protect and administer members’ copyright systematically, on behalf of rights holders, both within Myanmar and abroad.
2. b To administer rights for the benefit of copyright owners and holders of related rights.
3. c To collect and distribute royalties on behalf of rights holders, and to work together with collective management organisations at home and abroad.
4. d To operate as a non-profit organisation.

3 Programme of work

1. a To take part, alongside the public, in national activities carried out under the direction of the State, drawing on the participation of music professionals.
2. b To assist in the preservation of national culture and in national unity, through work connected with music copyright.
3. c To help secure and give effect to the copyright, ownership and lawful entitlements of music producers, together with artists and other professionals, in accordance with the law in force.
4. d To assist members of the music community in matters of celebration, bereavement and social need; and to hold music courses and talks from time to time, jointly with artists at home and abroad, so that the music world may develop.
5. e To co-operate with the relevant government bodies and with arts organisations.

The emblem carries this meaning: the record is the object music producers have relied on from the beginning of recorded music to the present day. It is a physical thing nobody can dispute, and the vessel that has carried created works onward and kept them durable.
